Working ninjas of Safer I team

Sonika Baniya

Project Lead

Sonika completed her bachelor’s in 2019 with a computer engineering degree. She is one of the founding members of this campaign and is serving in the role of Project Lead. She looks after mainly after project operation & implementation, resource mobilization and M&E of the projects in Safer I. She believes that technology should be accessible for everyone irrespective of gender, generation and geography.

For her, Safer I is the mission to create safe digital space and advocate for inclusive and accessible technology. When Safer I started back in 2019, it started with advocacy of password security and digital hygiene but things were different after the pandemic. Sonika contributed as a speaker in many online events we did back then and the Online harassment session in collaboration with Political Literacy for Women was one of the biggest hits.

The research on Compensation Trend Analysis in tech companies of Nepal is one of the major contributions of Sonika. In this research, she dug deeper to look if there is any pay gap in respect of gender, sexuality and scale of company in Nepal. In 2021, she made ICT policy for the organization which mainly talks about data privacy, storage and right to excerpt the information of all the stakeholders of the organization. Since then, it has been implemented in the organization.
In 2022, the Safer I team also started advocating in other provinces of Nepal. She was coordinating in project implementation for Tech for moms conducted in Ilam bazar, eastern Nepal and was one of the highlighting projects. Sonika inspires to become a social impact leader and advocate of technology for all and Safer I aspire to become her biggest ally.
